Breakfast In Canandaigua, New York

August 23, 2016 by Innkeeper

Breakfast in Canandaigua, New York at the 1795 Acorn Inn B & B.  In August, 2004 I embarked upon my journey as an Innkeeper. It’s been twelve years and this year has brought about a tremendous increase in special dietary needs. Probably the biggest issue has been gluten-free. But, there is a lot of dairy-free, soy-free, vegetarian, nut allergies, low fat, whole grains, high fiber, the list goes on… It would be more easily managed if there was just one out of ten with special dietary needs. However, that is not the case. Two out of six this morning. Four out of ten last weekend. Two our of four a few weeks ago. And, they are all different often times necessitating multiple staff in the kitchen.

Some of these dietary issues are so severe, the responsibility is frightening. There is probably more food in my fridge, freezer and cupboard that caters to dietary issues than not. Twelve years ago it was mostly diabetic. But now, I haven’t had one low sugar diet in years. Things have changed and so must I.

August 2016 Riesling Festival Canandaigua, NY

August 8, 2016 by Innkeeper

August 2016 Riesling Festival Canandaigua, NY –  Deb & Bill & Cathy & Kurt grape stompin’ at the Riesling Festival in Canandaigua, New York. So much fun. Wine. Beer. Food trucks galore. And so much more. There’s always next year…

August 2016 Riesling Festival Canandaigua, NY

Riesling Festival

Deb & Bill & Cathy & Kurt grape stompin’.

Update – 2018 – Sadly the New York State Riesling Festival is on a hiatus. For eight years, it was known as the Finger Lakes Riesling Festival. Last year it was called the New York State Wine Festival. As of 2018, the annual summertime wine event that drew thousands to Canandaigua is no more — at least for now.

Produced by marketing communications agency Dixon Schwabl, the festival was a fundraiser for the Canandaigua YMCA and the New York Wine and Culinary Center, now called New York Kitchen. Agency employees volunteered their time at the event, which raised more than $300,000 in all.

The agency decided to “press the pause button, at least for this year,” Dixon Schwabl CEO Lauren Dixon said.

She noted that in the past nine years, the number of wine festivals has grown and the area has become saturated. Producing the festival required a substantial amount of manpower.

The Bad News – The Riesling Festival is on hiatus this year. The Good News – There are others.

Full Breakfast at the 1795 Acorn Inn-August 5, 2016

August 5, 2016 by Innkeeper

Full Breakfast at the 1795 Acorn Inn-August 5, 2016. Fresh peach and blueberry parfait with vanilla yogurt and whipped cream. Followed by a Baked French Pear Pancake. Resulting in clean plates. Most noteworthy, laughter throughout. Now off to explore the Finger Lakes.

First we begin with coffee service at 8:00 am. Followed by a full breakfast at 9:00 am. Breakfast time is important to us as we seat the whole house family style. It’s wonderful to witness guests becoming friends. Sharing their days and the experiences in the Finger Lakes. It truly is a wonderful time. But, not for all guests. For those that don’t want to partake, you have the option to opt out. The result, a reduction in your rate. But, you will be missing a good time for sure.

A Swim In Canandaigua Lake

August 5, 2016 by Innkeeper

I’m always learning. No, I know how to swim. But, this is possibly the first time I am able to post a video. I’ve started a YouTube channel (who knew I could do that) which allows me to post videos. Prepare yourself. If this works, there’s more to come. A family of ducks out for an afternoon swim on Canandaigua Lake. Look how clear the water is.
