2019 Finger Lakes Fireworks don’t get any better. Are you looking for the best place in the Finger Lakes to view fireworks? Who doesn’t want to see bright, colorful lights bursting in the darkened sky! The excitement one feels as a child is still the same as an adult anytime you watch fireworks. Well, in my childish opinion, the best place to see fireworks on the 4th of July would be the north shore of Canandaigua Lake. Check out dates and times of fireworks in Canandaigua, visit the Finger Lakes Visitors Connection. Or for a more extensive list of Finger Lakes Fireworks, visit the Finger Lakes Travel Alliance.

When friends and family visit we always take a day trip to Niagra Falls. Naturally, when guests book a longer stay, I share my friends and family day trip to Niagra Falls with them. But now, of course, you will need your passport. So don’t forget to bring it with you. If you don’t have your passport, the falls are still spectacular from the US side though the Canadian side is more stunning.
Day Trip to Niagra Falls
Niagra Falls is about a two-hour drive from the 1795 Acorn Inn Bed and Breakfast. Most of the time is spent on the thruway, but it goes by fast. I recommend you take the Rainbow Bridge across the Niagra river because it drops you pretty much in the heart of the falls. The minute you start driving on the bridge, the view to your left is astonishing, almost unbelievable. Parking is a bit of a challenge but if you pass the falls there is a large parking area. Be prepared to pay and to walk.
There are truly no words to express the power of the water as it falls over the rocks. Hard to imagine people purposely tried to survive the Falls. But, the Visitors Center at the Falls is full of interesting facts and stories.
There is plenty to see and do in the Falls area. The Maid of the Mist will ferry you so close to the Falls. You will be given a waterproof poncho but don’t let that fool you… you will still get wet. Though I have not done it, the Cave of the Winds and the Walk Behind the Falls provide another perspective of the Falls. And, of course, if amusement parks are your thing, then there are plenty of those around too.
After visiting Niagra Falls and all its wonders, I prefer to drive along the Niagra River to the Botanical Gardens and Butterfly conservatory. Always a lovely way to spend an hour or so. And then further along the escarpment where wineries and local fruit stands abound. Several stops along the way are a must. And in the fall, in my opinion, it’s hard to beat the magnificent foliage.
Where am I headed? To Niagra on the Lake, a quaint little town. The main street is lined with shops and restaurants and, is home to the Shaw Festival. Such a pleasure to walk along main street under hanging baskets bursting with flowers. Even the center median is a site to behold.
And when you have had your fill, return to the 1795 Acorn Inn Bed and Breakfast to rest and recuperate for tomorrow’s spectacular adventure. For more information on Niagra Falls visit http://www.niagara-usa.com.

Next week the 1795 Acorn Inn Bed and Breakfast has the pleasure of hosting Mary Ann D., an artist competing in the 8th annual Plein Air Canandaigua. Artists from the around the county will converge in Canandaigua to capture the area’s scenic beauty on canvas. This will be the first time for the 1795 Acorn Inn B & B hosting an artist, and we couldn’t be more excited.
Forty one “juried in” artists have been selected to compete. While out exploring Canandaigua and the surrounding countryside, don’t be surprised to see many artists setting up their easels, ready to create.
Plein Air Canandaigua
The Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival takes place from June 4 – June 9, 2019. During this year’s festival, both nationally-known and locally-recognized artists will paint the beauty of Canandaigua and the surrounding areas, rain or shine. Then offer their paintings to the public for purchase. The festival culminates in a ticketed preview party ($35) on Saturday night, June 8, from 6–9 p.m., held at the newly-renovated permanent tent at Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion, and in a free, day-long Sunday exhibition and sale at Sonnenberg Garden’s Carriage House on June 9.
