Day Trip to Niagra Falls

When friends and family visit we always take a day trip to Niagra Falls. Naturally, when guests book a longer stay, I share my friends and family day trip to Niagra Falls with them. But now, of course, you will need your passport. So don’t forget to bring it with you. If you don’t have your passport, the falls are still spectacular from the US side though the Canadian side is more stunning.

Day Trip to Niagra Falls

Niagra Falls is about a two-hour drive from the 1795 Acorn Inn Bed and Breakfast. I recommend you take the Rainbow Bridge across the Niagra river because it drops you pretty much in the heart of the falls. The minute you start driving on the bridge, the view to your left is astonishing, almost unbelievable. Parking is a bit of a challenge but if you pass the falls there is a large parking area. Be prepared to pay and to walk.

There are truly no words to express the power of the water as it falls over the rocks. Hard to imagine people purposely tried to survive the Falls. But, the Visitors Center at the Falls is full of interesting facts and stories.

Friends and Falls

There is plenty to see and do in the Falls area. The Maid of the Mist will ferry you so close to the Falls. You will be given a waterproof poncho but don’t let that fool you… you will still get wet. Though I have not done it, the Cave of the Winds and the Walk Behind the Falls provide another perspective of the Falls. And, of course, if amusement parks are your thing, then there are plenty of those around too.

After visiting Niagra Falls and all its wonders, I prefer to drive along the Niagra River to the Botanical Gardens and Butterfly conservatory. Always a lovely way to spend an hour or so. And then further along the escarpment where wineries and local fruit stands abound. Several stops along the way are a must. And in the fall, in my opinion, it’s hard to beat the magnificent foliage.

Where am I headed? To Niagra on the Lake, a quaint little town. The main street is lined with shops and restaurants and, is home to the Shaw Festival. Such a pleasure to walk along main street under hanging baskets bursting with flowers. Even the center median is a site to behold.
