Finger Lakes accommodations: Choose a B&B!
Staying at a bed and breakfast is the best Finger Lakes accommodations choice when you’re looking for a relaxing escape. Here are just a few of the many reasons to choose a bed and breakfast over a hotel.
When you stay at a bed and breakfast, you get a comfortable room in addition to many free extras such as Wi-Fi, free parking and snacks which you often have to pay extra for in a hotel. Each of the individually decorated rooms in a bed and breakfast has its own individual character and charm. Many of them are created out of unique, historical structures that offer an interesting story to tell. One of the best perks of a B&B is the second ‘B’, – breakfast! This is usually a delicious home-cooked meal; what a great way to start your new day.
Innkeepers will go the extra mile to ensure you feel welcome, comfortable, and informed. If you have questions about the area you’d like to explore that day, tips on the best restaurants, or directions to your next attraction, they are there to help you! They are your local experts and will be happy to give you insight on what to see, do, and eat in their town.
The 1795 Acorn Inn Bed and Breakfast Happenings should bring you up to speed on just a few of the improvements made at the Inn this spring. It’s an ongoing effort to keep our quaint B & B current and cozy. And, we do so because we want our guests to have the best possible adventure in the Finger Lakes. Of course, much of your vacation will center on what you do around Canandaigua Lake and the surrounding areas, but much of it will be based on the comfort of your stay and your accommodations.
Our lavishly lush gardens require a great deal of attention. This year already we have trimmed back the forsythia along the front walk. In fourteen years they have not been trimmed back that far. But, after a splendid spring bloom we felt it was time. And, it opened up the walkway bringing in some much needed sunlight. In so doing, we were able to paint our fence, street side and front walk side. A fabulous brick red called Flower Pot that matches our trim was chosen. The forsythia are starting to green up and we are quite happy with the way things are looking.
Also along the front walk, we removed a few boxwood in front of our magnificent windows to repair the window sills. We have now planted a variety of plants, sunflowers, lilies, eucalyptus and a few others I forgot the names of. I am loving the color and the fresh breath that the front walkway now provides.

Cycling Canadice Lake is a wonderful way to see one of New York’s Finger Lakes in all it’s glory. A small, watershed lake just west of the 1795 Acorn Inn Bed and Breakfast. The lake is only three miles long and takes about an hour to cycle. In this Innkeeper’s opinion, it’s the perfect ride. Protected on windy days. Cool on warm summer days. Just the right amount of uphill and downhill. On the west side of the lake, the ride takes you through the trees and right along the lake. On the east side, a paved road rarely traveled with stunning views of the lake.
A water source for Rochester, NY, Canadice Lake is pristine. As a result, there are no houses are permitted on its shores. The Department of Environmental Conservation limits boats to 17 feet in length and a maximum of 10 horsepower engine. Consequently there are no speed boats and no jet skis! Swimming, camping and contamination of the water are prohibited. Thereby, maintaining high water quality making it perfect for lake activities.

“Geneva restaurant FLX Table has bested big-city competition to be named the country’s best new restaurant, ” according to the USA Today 10Best Reader’s Choice poll. Now that is quite an honor. Not too long ago I was honored to enjoy a lovely meal at the FLX Table restaurant in the Finger Lakes. FLX Table, located in a cool building in downtown Geneva, is only a 30 minute drive from the 1795 Acorn Inn Bed and Breakfast and has a 5:45 pm seating and an 8:15 pm seating.
What to expect at the FLX Table restaurant…
Upon entering the restaurant your party is checked in and you are welcome to enjoy a glass of wine, beer or champagne while waiting for other guests to arrive. Once everyone has arrived, you are escorted into the other room and shown your seat at the only table in the restaurant. The kitchen is also in the same room. You really do feel like you are in a special place. Sound interesting?
